GRIZZLY PEAR
I woke up from fever dreams, trying to fit in mailboxes and coordinate coded listings.
I looked up into the sky and behind the windows.
In between coughing and cold sweats, I stressed about different combinations of letters and numbers.
Each snippet of dream colliding with each other as shards of glass.
I passed the night away.
I thought about skipping my morning routine and jumping straight into my deadline.
But then I realized how bad I am with keeping good habits.
Not worth the risk.
So here is a short blog post.

As I grow older, my metabolism has slowed down, and I’m now consistently hovering in the low 170’s.
While looking up my old Tai Chi teacher, who is now a licensed acupuncturist, I found this blog post on losing weight via fruit. It’s quite good and worth a read.
In the blog post, there is link to this article about lower BMI recommendations for Asians to avoid diabetes.
Well, it looks like I need to drop about 25 pounds.
I guess I’ll try to do it as slowly as I started.
The first order of business is to figure out to eat better (and less) at work.
And then after that maybe I do need to be like my old teacher, set a hard limit and skip dinner if I’m over that number. At least I won’t have food coma in the evenings!
Yesterday we were playing with a pepper shaker inside our rainbow colored slinky.
The shimmering of the slinky being pulled up and down made for an interesting effect that was belied by the cheap label and plastic cap of the shaker.
This morning, I found a one of our girl’s cups inside the slinky. It is a simple clear glass cup with vertical ribs, but it contrasted nicely within the graduated pastels of the slinky.
Usually it’s just a mess, but occasionally, kids will come up with oddly beautiful juxtapositions.
Nevada has a citizen legislature that meets for four months every two years. So it’s a bit of a feeding frenzy at this time, especially since this is my first rodeo as a state worker.
But I can say, all the info is out there. If you dig around on the legislative website, you can find what you’re looking for.
And if you’re interested, you can watch the hearings live. The other day they had a hearing that started at 6pm to allow public comment. It lasted four hours.
The hard part is sifting through all this data. Everything is hiding in plain sight.

One of things I did not anticipate about new job was how much joy I would feel when I find anachronisms in project specification books. It is so refreshing to stumble across non-ironic, un-nostalgic references to old technology.
I just hope that I’m not missing out on the really big whoppers while I revel in catching these minnows.
